Hi! I’m Kat. I always knew that I wanted to do something creative, but it has been quite a journey trying out many different things to get to where I am today. It started with trying out modelling while I was in college studying Graphic Design. The modelling lead to an interest (read: obsession) in photography which, within 6 months of shooting over the weekends, became my full time job. I have now been doing photography and running my own business full time for 12 years.

I started my photography career with fashion photography but have since photographed everything from events to weddings to food to product to lifestyle and stock, and most recently I have put a more intentional focus on boudoir photography.

I am so proud to be a Profoto ambassador here in South Africa. I am also one of the in-house photographers for the stock site Pichastock. Our goal is to change the perception of the story of Afrocentric people around the world by capturing real Africans in their day to day life and to create a space where African people of all kinds are represented fairly and realistically. We have also recently started a YouTube channel called PICHAU where I have some educational videos up giving tips on how to be a better stock photographer. It is early days in my educator role, but I do love sharing my knowledge and I am looking forward to doing more of this kind of thing in the future.

I was born and lived in Joburg my whole life up until a few years ago. I had always loved Cape Town but I didn’t know how, as a freelancer, I would make the move. Especially since all of my friends and family were in Joburg. It seemed impossible. I made one decision one day to try it out and see what happened. It’s been 4 years now. 3 out of those 4 years were some of the hardest years of my life. But without everything I learnt in those 3 years I wouldn’t have the drive that I do now to do whatever it takes to do what I love. And this mindset has been a Godsend with Rona the past year.

I have enjoyed every process of my photography journey that has lead me to where I am now. My passion is photographing people. So as long as I get to make magic with another human, and they love the images, I am a happy bean. The happiest, in fact! 

I avoid negativity, talking badly about people (including myself in my own head), drama and fitting too much into my schedule. I am in a place of peace for the first time in a very long time. I love the home that I have built in lockdown. I now cherish the quiet moments by myself and the small gatherings with close friends more than I ever did, and I will do everything in my power to protect that peace. The more conscious and present I am in my day to day life, the more I can give to my clients when I am working.

I fill my time with things that bring me joy. I love documenting my travels, good food and wine and learning about myself and how to harness who I am and what I know to serve others with my gift of photography. I have a passion for helping women find their voice & express themselves through imagery. I can feel that this is my true purpose in life.
